Fatigue Life Prediction of Shipper Shaft of Electric Crawler Excavator by Finite Element Method

Abstract

The objective of this research is to predict the fatigue life of shipper shaft of the electric crawler excavator which is the major machine of Mae Moh mine. The method of study began with finding the fatigue resistance of the test material based on ASME B106.1M:1985 standard and creating an equation for predicting the fatigue life according to the Basquin's equation. Then the finite element method by NASTRAN program was used to analyze the stresses of shipper shaft of the electric crawler excavator and predict the fatigue life of shipper shaft of the electric crawler excavator. The results from the prediction of the fatigue life of shipper shaft of the electric crawler excavator while receiving the fatigue stress of 423 MPa were 276,449 cycle.
