Abstract

The experiment were operated for comparative efficacy of Brugia malayi microfilariacide drug. 18 patients who has B. malayi microfilaria were devided by 3 groups with block random sampling method. Each group was taken drugs by 3 regimens, 1) Diethylcarbamazine citrate(DEC) 6 mg/kg 2) DEC 6 mg/kg. 6 days and 3) DEC 6 mg/kg combined of Albendazole (ALB) 400 mg and all groups repeated drug every 6 months. Evaluation were carried out for 18 months. The result showed the 6 mg/kg .6 days of DEC trial has been dramatically reduced microfilaria density 99% in 3 days and microfilaria clearance in 60 days. DEC 6 mg/kg combined of ABL 400 mg trial has been reduced microfilaria density 93.1% in 3 days and microfilaria clearance in 90 days. DEC 6 mg/kg single dose trial has been reduce microfilaria density 91.2% and microfilaria clearance in 30 days after taken second dose. So 6 mg/kg 6 days of DEC trial should be the best efficacy for kill B. malayi microfilaria, however compliance has been poor due to usually take uncomplete dosage and refuse and leading to low complete rate in transmission areas. The effectiveness of DEC 6 mg/kg combined of ALB 400 mg single dose was slightly lower than DEC 6 mg/kg. 6 days. So it should be considered to use in Lymphatic filariasis campaign for increasing people acceptance and complete drug coverage rate including to safe budget and follow up time.
