Application of a new blood film staining kit in field operation
Main Article Content
Abstract
A new blood film staining kit was applied to improve the performance of microscopic malaria diagnosis in endemic areas. One hundred blood staining kits were tested in malaria clinics under the responsibility of the Disease Prevention and Control Office (DPCO) number 2-12. The number of test kits sending to the DPCO varied according to their malaria transmission level. Quality of the new staining kit was compared with the routine staining in terms of their ability to clearly differentiate chromatin, cytoplasm and artifacts caused by stain precipitation. The user satisfaction to the new staining kit was also evaluated. Result showed that quality of the new staining kit was better than the routine staining in term of less artifact forming. 50-64% of microscopists in this study preferred the new blood film staining kit and 85% would like to replace the routine staining by this new staining kit. Further improvement should be the packaging and staining tray.
