Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of fertilizer formulas applied during the fruiting stage on yield, fruit quality, and economic returns of Tai Hao melon (Cucumis melo L.).                           The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments: no fertilizer application during the fruiting stage (T1), fertilizer formula 13-3-42 (T2), fertilizer formula 11-9-40 (T3), fertilizer formula 0-35-40 (T4), and fertilizer formula 0-0-50 (T5). The results showed that fertilizer formulas applied during the fruiting stage significantly affected melon yield and fruit quality (p<0.05). T5 produced a fruit weight, fruit length, and fruit diameter of 2.38 kg, 20.08 cm, and 15.70 cm, respectively, with a flesh thickness of 3.86 cm. T2 had a total soluble solids (TSS) content of 16.50 °Brix, which was not significantly different from T5 at 15.60 °Brix. In terms of economic returns, all treatments had benefit-cost ratios (BCRs) greater than 1. T5 generated a total revenue of 1,193.00 baht, a net return of 606.00 baht, and a BCR of 2.03. Under the conditions of this experiment, the application of fertilizer formula 0-0-50 (T5) during the fruiting stage showed potential to improve yield, physical fruit quality, and economic returns of Tai Hao melon. Therefore, the findings can be used as supporting information for fertilizer management during the fruiting stage in melon production.
