Abstract

A significant amount of leaf residue is produced during the commercial production of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). Farmers frequently burn the leaf because it is convenient and inexpensive. Additionally, residual cannabinoids limit their prospective use. This study aimed to investigate the effects of temperature and duration on the changes in cannabinoid content in hemp leaf residue treated with a hot air oven. A factorial experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) at temperatures of 70, 80, 85, 90, 100, and 110°C were applied for durations of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 hours. Delta9–tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9–THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) content were analyzed using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results showed that both temperature and duration significantly affected cannabinoid levels (P<0.05). Treatment at 110°C for 6 hours significantly reduced Δ9–THC content from 0.685% (w/w) to 0.442% (w/w), and Treatment at 90°C for 6 hours significantly increased CBD content from 0.622% (w/w) to 1.156% (w/w)
